Getting to know your West Highland Terrier

Hailing from Scotland, the West Highland Terrier has a big ego and loves entertaining those around them.

They can be disinterested at times, and this is most apparent at mealtimes. Their fussy appetites mean they need a diet that entices their senses and is why our ROYAL CANIN® West Highland food has been specially designed to tempt them.

Temperament

The West Highland Terrier is a social companion that gets along with everyone, including children and other household pets. A happy-go-lucky dog, the Westie - as they are affectionately named - has a lively temperament but isn’t demanding. They are very independent and are quite happy to be left to their own devices, making them an excellent pet choice for those who spend a bit of time away from home.

Weight

The breed has a particular palette and owners can sometimes struggle finding something they’ll be happy to eat. This is why every owner of a Westie is always on the lookout for a diet with the proper nutritional balance that can also tempt their particular tastebuds so they can keep up their body weight.

Muscles & Joints

Although Westies don’t need too much intensive exercise and are quite a laid back breed, they still need a reasonable amount of activity to keep their muscles and joints working as they should.

Skin & Coat

Westies have quite sensitive skin and a short, wiry coat. Their coat is very easy to groom and because it is so dry, it is best to limit how often you bathe them.
