Getting to know your Bichon Frise

The Bichon Frise is a small, lively dog that thrives on the company of others, which makes them brilliant pets for families with children. Because they are low shedders, the Bichon is also one of the go-to pets for people with allergies. Although this breed has an independent streak, they definitely love to be part of a family and make very loyal companions.

Temperament

The Bichon Frise has a friendly demeanor and has a lot of love to give. They enjoy being the center of attention and love spending time in the company of their family. Because they need attention, they can struggle being left alone and are prone to separation anxiety. They socialise well with other pets and are usually incredibly enthusiastic companions, loving nothing more than lounging on the laps of their owners.

Weight

While they aren't known for their appetites, Bichons typically spend most of their lives living up to their lapdog nature, so can be prone to weight gain if their diet isn’t properly portioned.

Muscles & Joints

Bichons have a small, solid build and don’t require too much exercise, which is great for owners who live in small quarters. It’s important though to keep them moving by walking or playing with them to maintain the health of their muscles and joints.

Skin & Coat

The silken white double coat of the Bichon Frise requires a lot of care and attention to keep it looking at its best. Because the breed doesn’t shed, it's best to brush their coat daily to remove dead hairs, help avoid matting and prevent skin irritation.
